"This song came to life very quickly. After I played around with the initial riff, all subsequent parts kind of naturally fell into place. It's a song full of dynamics and different textures, with a look to the future while we also nod to the past, especially in the middle section. Fabio did a brilliant job with the vocal lines and delivered a very inspired performance. The intro came about while I was working on some harmonies, then Fabio joined in and the magic happened." (Felipe Andreoli)

"The 'Tide Of Changes' lyrics were the first I wrote for the »Cycles Of Pain« album and portray exactly what the title denounces. We live in a moment of great instability and, while our ego seeks the comfort zone and control, it is fundamental to adapt to this impermanence, to surf the waves of destiny and not on our expectations. It's the pains and frustrations that shape and strengthen us, to the point where we can beat our chest and say: ‘Let the next wave of difficulties come. Want to take another piece of me? Come on, I've waited for this moment!'" (Rafael Bittencourt)

Lyrics:

TIDE OF CHANGES - PART I
If you'd go back in time for one single day
One tiny change in life and you wouldn't be the same
Oh, life is a tide of changes
Why a deed so small may affect it all
Mysteries that make me wonder
Oh, life is a tide of changes
Remember this

TIDE OF CHANGES - PART II
Here I am, torn down to pieces
And from where I stand
Rock bottom made me stronger
Even when the days seemed longer
For all kinds of stormy weather
I had enough
I had enough to make my fears my strength
And now you're back

To take another piece of me
Take another piece and think I’m falling
Take your chance I've waited for this moment
Take another piece of me
Take another piece of me, I’m warning
Take your chance I'm ready for this moment to rise again
I'll rise again

There I was
An ordinary man struggling to get along
I wonder where you were when I was
Breaking all the chains around me
Trying to find a place for myself in this world
And I can't wait to see you come again
To feel my fire

Just wanna take it, so take it
Take another piece of me
Take another piece and think I’m falling
Take your chance I've waited for this moment
Take another piece of me
Take another piece of me, I’m warning
Take your chance I'm ready for this moment to rise again
I'll rise again

Calm tide ahead
Strong tide ahead
When you think you know it
Life's a tide of changes!

(Salve, salve Iemanjá
Salve Janaína, e tudo que se fez n’água.
Jogue flores para o mar
Deus salve a rainha)

If you wanna take it
Take another piece of me
Take another piece and think I’m falling
Take your chance I've waited for this moment
Take another piece of me
Take another piece of me, I’m warning
Take your chance I'm ready for this moment to rise again
I'll rise again

Strong tide ahead

Guitarist Rafel Bittencourt:
"This video is a reflection about who we are really following as leaders and who we are unconsciously worshipping with our acts. People might believe that they worship God and follow specific values, but in reality they have other priorities such as work, social position, food, social media, pleasure etc. Our highest values play a very small part in the way we behave. Most of us in contemporary society are addicted to being connected to the internet, networks, and social media. An illness that has become normal. It all starts with the fact that most of our work and survival depends on it, and ends on the sense of emptiness and anxiety when our phones are off. That makes us all very passive to the influence of all sorts of truths being bombarded simultaneously through what we follow. While our brains are numb and receptive, we're commanded by external, also contradictory references. So the gods that rule the world nowadays are the chaos within our own habits, and we're confused searching for vain experiences to fulfill our lonely and empty souls."

Lyrics:
GODS OF THE WORLD

You know we're not the same
No matter who's to blame
We're dreaming of a better world
Time for the human race
Don't give up in disgrace
Give meaning to your words

Words are lies
You know how well the story goes
They blind, blind your eyes
You fall in with the darkest minds

Gods of the world

You have to realize
Old heroes in disguise
No one is perfect in this world
They force us to divide
And all the cards they hide
So they have full control

Words are lies
You know how well the story goes
They blind, blind your eyes
You fall in with the darkest minds

Gods of the world
Control us all
They play your fortune in a game of rise and fall
And every minute
They call the shots
Marionettes under the strings of the gods
Gods of the world
Gods of the world

Words are crimes
The enemy's been idolized
Blind, blind your eyes
Sustaining all the darkest minds

Gods of the world
Control us all
They play your fortune in a game of rise and fall
And every minute
They call the shots
Marionettes under the strings of the gods
Gods of the world
Gods of the world
Gods of the world

Guitarist Rafael Bittencourt explains: "'Vida Seca' means a lot to us in ANGRA because it expresses what we are: a metal band from Brazil. So the song is a combination of prog elements with Brazilian vibes. It is tough to create something meaningful and deep for the people without going deep into ourselves, and going deep also means reaching and accepting my background. I know it sounds odd for many traditional metal fans, but it wouldn't be honest from my side if I wasn't making music inspired by my surroundings, the people, the habits, the sounds. The song and the video 'Vida Seca' both have a little bit of all of that in a poetic yet truthful way, disclosing the discrepancy of Brazilian social dystopia. It's certainly one of my favourites of the album."

"'Vida Seca' is my favourite track on »Cycles Of Pain« and one of the songs I'm most proud of. It starts with a strong Brazilian accent that develops into a more progressive sound. The dynamics within the song help tell the story of the lyrics, taking you through the character's journey of vulnerability, growth, self-doubt and acceptance. We are extremely privileged to have the amazing, multi Latin Grammy winning LENINE singing the first part in Portuguese. As someone born in the Northeast of Brazil, a region where poverty and underdevelopment is rampant, he brings authenticity to the song, giving the character a legitimate voice. Lyrically, 'Vida Seca' talks about a child who's born in poverty, a situation all too common in Brazil and many other countries. Despite the hardship of his childhood, throughout his life he ends up having opportunities and ultimately reaches a better condition. It's a view on meritocracy and how unfair it is to expect the same level of achievement from people with very different starting conditions," states bass player Felipe Andreoli.

Lyrics:
VIDA SECA

Aurora fria, a lua devolvia o sol
Prum mundo tão real
O corpo em pé e a alma embaixo do lençol
Procurando forças
Pra chorar
Olhe Deus por seu filho pecador

A vida seca, não havia espaço pra ilusão
Brincava de lutar
E vivendo entre o caos e a confusão
Eu nunca achei o meu lugar

O sol nasceu para iluminar a escuridão
Tudo mudou

Another word of wisdom to save the day
Another life to know
There is a universe of endless possibilities
Another chance to grow

Found my way through the wind and the cold
I lie awake, as the gods of the world take control

Lost in the wide horizon
Set my gaze to the distant past
And hide from the glistening blinding light
Have I lost to a higher power?
Try my best just to comprehend
And the hope flows like water through my hands
Then I wane for a moment and I
Surrender

Talk to me cause my pride is crawling
Answer me, I am losing all control?
The angels are falling
Comfort me when my faith is dying
Follow me to the end of time, you know
The angels are falling
The angels are calling

Lost in the wide horizon
Set my gaze to the distant past
And I hide from the glistening blinding light
Have I lost to a higher power?
Try my best just to comprehend
And the hope flows like water through my hands
Like the clouds fading out of my mind
I just cherish the moment and smile
