THE MOTH have honed their no-nonsense approach to SludgeMetalDoom on numerous tours and gigs. Their songs are virtually void of frills, instead opting to turn out hammer heavy drums and riff ready rock ’n’ roll – as brutal as it is bewitching. Catchy hooklines get stuck in the listener’s heart and mind like a dislodged meat hook, explaining why the band calls their style doom-sludge pop.
Bass player and singer Cecile Ash reveals the touching story behind the single "Battlefield" in her own words:
Often, the worst emotional injuries come from a direction we would never expect - from the people closest to us. In those moments, there seems to be no solace to be found, and we feel abandoned. Sometimes, the pain is so intense or the shame is so overwhelming that we cannot (yet) talk about it, and we are left alone with our grief. We put on a smile for the world, even though we are being torn apart inside. In doing so, we deny ourselves and, to exaggerate it slightly, we slowly destroy our souls - with each of these situations a bit more. Perhaps this is not an exaggeration, but rather the reality.

"Oft erfährt man die schlimmsten emotionalen Verletzungen aus einer Richtung, die man nie vermuten würde. Den Menschen, die uns am nächsten stehen. Also gibt es dort auch keinen Trost zu holen, man fühlt sich im Stich gelassen. Manchmal ist die Verletzung so schwer, oder man fühlt sich so beschämt, dass man (noch) nicht drüber sprechen kann, man ist allein mit seiner Trauer. Dann lächelt man nach außen hin, obwohl es einen innerlich zerreißt. So verleugnet man sich aber und, überspitzt gesagt, bringt seine Seele jedes Mal ein bisschen um. Vielleicht ist das aber auch gar nicht so überspitzt und wirklich so."
